One of my primary objectives is to ensure the expedition's affordability, especially given the prevailing notion that Everest is now considered a domain of the 'privileged'. If you take a look at my 'About Me' page, you'll quickly realize I'm far from fitting that profile. Striving to keep the expedition budget-conscious, my utmost priority remains safeguarding not just my own safety but that of others as well.
I'm actively pursuing partnerships with various companies, involving collaborations such as equipment endorsements. Additionally, I'm considering integrating an element of voluntary work within Nepal, a move that promises further financial reduction. Keep an eye out for blog updates detailing the intricacies of pricing.
Online research has led me to expeditions priced around £40,000 to £45,000. While some might perceive this as economical, it's noteworthy that I've come across reports of individuals shelling out over £100,000 for a "risk-free" summiting. This entails a robust team of six or more individuals, working cohesively to ensure a seamless ascent of one individual.
Given my successful completion of Everest Base Camp in April 2023, I've cultivated invaluable contacts to guide me in selecting a reputable provider. After negotiations, we've settled on a fee of $33,900 USD (approximately £26,600). My commitment drove me to delve further into my network in Nepal, resulting in an even more attractive proposition. Collaborating with a company that also operates a charity, I proposed offering my engineering skills in exchange for further price reduction. This culminated in a final price of $27,500 USD (£21,600). It's essential to note that this rate aligns perfectly with those paying full fare for an identical expedition.
This price however exclusively covers the 65-day expedition from Kathmandu, Nepal. It excludes supplementary elements such as training, preparatory phases, including:
- Accommodation fees- acclimatisation phase, prior to expedition (Nepal)
- International flights and airport taxes.
- Visa fees.
- Travel insurance.
- Tips for driver, guide, porter, BC staff, and climbing Sherpas.
- Essential equipment such as ice axe, crampons, climbing boots, harness. This is pretty expensive equipment. Therefore unless a brand partnership is in place, I would need to purchase the equipment myself.Â
With my vision firmly anchored in achieving the summit next season, I'm excited to embark on this journey and document it every step of the way. Be sure to follow my social profiles for progress updates.Â
